Genesis 37
Jacob had a son named Joseph. He was his favorite child because Joseph was his son of his old age. For this reason Joseph’s brothers became jealous of him and hated him. We can see in this story the negative effect of having favoritism. Sometimes we have favorite son or daughter, favorite relative, even favorite friends in the church. But the Bible tells us not to have favoritism. God wants us to be kind to everyone not only to certain people. God doesn’t want favoritism that causes divisions in the relationship specially in the church. Love not only one or two neighbors but all our neighbors.
